Windscreen Chips Simplified
If the chip is in the A zone* the damage size is restricted to 10mm otherwise it will be seen as an MOT failure. The rest of the area covered by the sweep of both wipers damage can be up to 30mm. Elsewhere on the windscreen, any damage larger than 20mm will also be seen as a failure. Chips are often restricted to only being able to be repaired once so getting it right the first time is essential.
* The A zone is the width of the steering wheel from top to bottom of the windscreen that is engulfed by the driver side wiper sweep.
